Notes From An Avid Bow Tie Wearer

In other news, I've been enjoying your blog lately. Yours and Will Boelhke's are the only fashion blogs I read regularly, though I occasionally take a bit of issue with Will's -- but usually only when someone else guest writes it. I saw one entry where the writer loudly decried the blasphemy of flat front trousers after another lengthy diatribe aimed at oversized lapels, and I thought to myself, "Maybe they don't look good on you..." I'm a big fan -- my legs are rather huge, and no matter how big the pleats are on my trousers, they always flare out and look somewhat ridiculous. I can pull off one, but any more and I look rather swarthy, shall we say.

I guess I just like to break fashion rules... I noticed your new pattern that you suggest pairing with jeans. I've liked putting formal wear in with my more casual items -- especially jeans -- for some time now. As long as you pick the right sort of jacket, I think the whole thing works well. Early on I wasn't quite as selective with my jackets as I should have been, but these days I like to think I pull it off. It's a personal sort of style, if nothing else. Just the other day I wore the Eli bow, which you mentioned was devised with formal occasions in mind (and I can see why), and I wore it with an earth tone jacket and pants with a light grey shirt and a ivory floral pocket square and a pair of sneakers. Not a bad ensemble, I thought.

Regards,
