The other day we were finishing cutting some silk for an American customer who ordered bow ties. I had some silk left over and it was around about the time we had just done a delivery to the Strand Hatters. I spoke with Robert Carroll at length and we agreed to do an experiment. Most hat bands were made of very cheap stuff. It was robust but after a while the black grosgrain was whited with salt from the sweat of the wearer's head. What if we could give them something a little more luxurious that could be removed easily enough or used over the top of the existing hat band.... Ah, it was one of those Steve Jobs moments when we connected the dots... Such a small idea, such glamorous repercussions for all those out there with a panama who wanted to set themselves apart and maybe even match the bow to the band.
